Cin7 vs Fishbowl: inventory-turnover reporting

The two best-known mid-market inventory systems that sit upstream of QuickBooks or Xero. Both produce per-SKU turnover; the question is how cleanly that aggregates and reconciles with the GL.

The reporting verdict

Cin7 (Core or Omni) reports per-SKU and per-category turnover natively and is stronger for multi-channel ecommerce. Fishbowl produces a dedicated Inventory Turnover Report and is stronger for QuickBooks-anchored manufacturers, but defaults to a trailing-twelve-month window that needs resetting before benchmarking.

The Cin7 side, in one paragraph

Costed sale lines aggregated from order fulfilment. Cin7 reports the turnover ratio via Inventory Movement and Stock-on-Hand reports at Reports > Inventory > Stock Movement; Reports > Sales > Cost of Goods Sold. Manual. Cin7 reports turnover by SKU and category for the report window; the user multiplies by (365/days) to annualise. The caveat to know going in: costing method (fifo, fefo, or specific) is set per organisation; switching mid-year causes a discontinuity that distorts trailing-twelve-month turnover.

The Fishbowl side, in one paragraph

Posted COGS from shipped sales orders in the selected window. Fishbowl reports it via Inventory Turnover Report and Inventory Valuation Summary at Reports > Inventory > Inventory Turnover. Automatic, but defaults to a 12-month trailing window; reset the date range before benchmarking against an industry median calculated on a calendar year. The caveat to know going in: fishbowl integrates with quickbooks for the gl side; if quickbooks cogs posts are batched, the fishbowl turnover report and the p&l will disagree until the sync completes.

Pick Cin7 if

  • You sell across Shopify, Amazon, and physical channels and need turnover by sales channel.
  • You want SaaS-only, no on-prem option, with a global product roadmap.
  • Your CFO wants category-level turnover, not just SKU-level.

Pick Fishbowl if

  • You are a discrete manufacturer or wholesale distributor running QuickBooks.
  • You want a one-time perpetual licence (Fishbowl Advanced) instead of a monthly subscription.
  • Bill-of-materials and work-order tracking matter as much as finished-goods turnover.

What this comparison deliberately does not do

It does not tell you which system is cheaper, and it does not name a winner. This site exists to make the inventory-turnover ratio defensible. The compare above is scoped to the single question of which platform gets you to that defensible number with the fewest side workbooks. Pricing, implementation, customer support, and ecosystem are decisions for a procurement evaluation, not for this page.
